The soul is a reservoir...a repository of the absolute and universal truths. This gift comes with free will...after all, we cannot claim that free will is truly exercised without knowledge of the truth.
This pool of knowledge can be used in one of two distinct ways:
1. enhance our connection with and dependence on God
2. enhance our sense of independence from God and (foolishly) try to reach the level of Divinity with it
Be careful with your use of any body of knowledge. Knowledge can be intoxicating. It is well said that "knowledge is power" (quote by Francis Bacon) and "power is corrupting" and "absolute power corrupts absolutely". Conversely, knowledge can be humbling...and from humility, comes a sense of our true and rightful place in the order of things...connected with God.
The soul (our soul and the souls of all others who touch our lives in whatever manner or form) is the medium through which God reveals Himself to us. The day our body connects with our soul is the day we begin to connect with God. Find the connection between your body and your soul...and never let it go.
