not once did Jesus ever get concerned or talk about the legislation and penalization of His commandments and teachings.

although legislation can be and is inspired by religious or spiritual teachings, such enactments are not done so for religious or spiritual motivations per se. rather, laws are enacted by society to create order that is aligned with the moral beliefs of the majority (in a democratic society that is).

that said, we enact laws that prohibit and/or discourage the killing of the born but we are not as moved to pass laws to prohibit and/or discourage the killing of prisoners, the unborn or enemies of the state (among others). what drives us to be selective in that fashion?
