Fear is perhaps the most significant aspect of our programming. It is the most potent force that freezes us into inaction (in terms of doing acts of true love) because fear stops the flow of true love.
But there is one particular form of fear that we can use as a first step toward our own good. This is nicely described in Psalm 111:10 - "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
It is important to clarify at this point what "fear of the Lord" means in its usage of the word "fear" - it means reverence for God. Follow God blindly first (difficult to do for most but definitely doable), then understanding will follow...just as I described in my essay "Faith First, Then Enlightenment".
